Title: Medical Assistant
Reports To: Clinical Operations Manager
Work Week: Hourly as needed
Wage Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt

SUMMARY POSITION STATEMENT
This position exists to provide direct patient care, and to assist the health care provider in providing quality health care and work to improve health outcomes

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Evaluate and treat patients within the scope of training and capabilities as a health care professional.
• Be a patient advocate
• Offer support and assistance to the provider
• Apply principles of aseptic technique and infection control
• Comply with “Universal/Standard Precautions” for infection control
• Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas including restocking all work areas
• Prepare patients and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments
• Prepare and administer medications and injections as directed by provider
• Recognize and respond to emergencies
• Conduct patient education
• Triage patients on the phone and face-to-face
• Relay lab and/or radiology results to patients as directed by provider
• Coordinate patient care information with health care providers
• Maintain clinical supply inventory as directed
• Maintain cleanliness of work area including proper disposal of contaminated waste and sharps following Universal Precautions and OSHA etc.
• Assess medical equipment daily for cleanliness and functionality
• Makes pre & post exam calls and sends accurate and timely communication as needed
• Works only within scope of MA practice and refers appropriately, timely and accurately all out of scope needs to nurses and providers etc.
• Anticipates provider needs and implements provider practices
• Understand and support Meaningful Use including compliance with documentation requirements
• Consistent attendance and punctuality is required
• Expected to work hours set and/or the schedule set by supervisor
• Other Duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL TEAM DUTIES
• Assume active role on care team
• Assist in facilitating coordination of care
• Effectively utilize electronic health record (EHR) to support billing, utilizing templates, documenting protocols and other available tools
• Work effectively and cooperatively with all members of the practice
• Participates in training, learning and meetings

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education - Graduate from a national accredited school of nursing or medical assisting preferred
License/Certification – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CNA) preferred upon hire - required within 12 months of employment
Experience – minimum 1 year prior experience in medical office
Job Requirements
• Practice within scope of education, training and personal capabilities
• Maintain mandatory certification and classes (CPR, infection control, etc) as directed by certification requirements and company requirements
• Must be computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Office products and in computerized medical record data entry, and ability to type 45 wpm.
• Possess “people skills” with all age-groups and enjoy working in health care setting
• Expected to read and respond timely, professionally and accurately to emails using Outlook
• Pass a state required background check and pre-hire drug screen
• Periodic competency assessments with supervisor or physician


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Occasional bending, stooping, stretching
• Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer, telephone and office equipment
• Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate in writing, in person and by phone
• An individual in this position may be exposed to communicable disease and other diseases common to health settings, blood borne pathogens, and physical hazards (e.g. needle sticks, etc)
• Requires occasional lifting and transferring patients
• Requires occasional lifting of not more than 50 lbs
